Let the dads in your life know they’ve done well with grill-ready gifts this Father’s Day.
What’s Fresh?
This week Squirrel is going nuts for all things BBQ! If Squirrel was permitted to operate a grill (he might singe his tail!), he would be using seasoning and sauce from Burning Asphalt on New York strip steaks from Cherry Hill Ecological Farm or a Copley’s Chicken breast, and serving it up on a Father’s-Day-friendly-board from Essman Woodworking.
New Producer Spotlight:
Going with the Grain Bakery
Baker Lori Sands is bringing time-honored techniques she learned from master bakers in Vermont and France to Western Pennsylvania. Going with the Grain Bakery is located in Harrisville, PA, and produces small batches of slow-risen bread. Concerned with nutrition and tradition, Sands sources organic ingredients from local farms in Butler County such as Frankferd Farms—also a producer here
at the Market.
Food for Thought
Why a ‘low waste’ Farm to Table dinner?
A low waste event reduces waste generated at the event and captures as much as possible for composting or recycling. A meal for 150 people can create ALOT of waste. That doesn’t line up with how we think at Edinboro Market. So, our 2022 Farm to Table Dinner will be a low waste event. We’re encouraging all attendees to bring their own place settings and have asked Beth Ivanic of Lizziebeth’s to judge a friendly competition. There are cool prizes for the five place settings Beth likes best so get creative!
We’ll also be partnering with Conservation Compost to compost all meal scraps.
Did you know that if you live in the Borough of Edinboro you can compost your household kitchen waste through a partnership between the Borough and Conservation Compost?
We’ll have recycling bins too. Our goal is to divert 90% of the waste from our dinner from the landfill. Who knows, maybe next year we’ll shoot for a zero waste event! 🙂
