Gratitude, positive attitudes and community connections:
let it grow!
This week, Squirrel is going nuts over green bell peppers and eggplants from Post Apples, yellow plums from Orton’s, Red Wine Vinaigrette dressing from Alla Famiglia, as well as the return of small and large seasonal honey from Raintree Farm and Maple Magic Seeds from Top Seedz.
On Thursday, August 1st, we hosted an an open house with CRAFT (The Center for Regional Agriculture, Food, and Transformation of Chatham University) from 5:30 to 7pm. At this event, Nicolette Spudic, Director of Business Support at CRAFT, shared information on the upcoming Business Readiness classes for small-scale farms and food entrepreneurs. The first northwest PA cohort is tentatively scheduled for late January 2025. Nicolette also provided an overview of the resources available through the new Appalachia Regional Food Business Center.
Dear reader,
This edition of the newsletter marks 3 years since its inception! I would like to give a warm and hearty ‘thank you!’ to all whom take the time to read through this newsletter twice a month! When I joined the Market in 2021, I immediately wanted to find a way to utilize my writing skills to contribute to the mission. There are so many details and incredible stories that go into the products we carry here, so I thought starting a newsletter would be a great way to get that information out there. As of this issue, there are over 650 of you who are just as curious as we are about where and how your food gets to your plate!
This week also marks my third year of working at the Edinboro Market, which has easily been one of the most potent sources of joy in my life, especially thanks to all of you! Over the past 3 years within this roughly 1,000 square foot space, our shoppers have shared smiles, triumphs, tribulations, helpful advice and suggestions, recipes, and even items they were no longer needing just because they thought of us! I have seen recoveries, relationships deepen, and babies grow into helpful young beings who love to push around the shopping cart for their parents. It hardly feels like 3 years, but despite the pace, the passage of time has been packed with rich experiences that will be in my heart for years to come.
The value of connection is what really makes Edinboro Market different than other grocery stores, and what made me a shopper here to begin with. Our products are here because our producers care about what they do, you shop here because you care about what they do, and what you eat, and each of our staff members are here because they care about facilitating this exchange and building a sense of community around good food that provides a living for the grower/maker. This is a cycle of positivity which keeps on growing. It is an understatement to say I’m excited to see all of these labors of love come to fruition in our expanded space at 211 Mill St.
If you have the means, it would be a wonderful “workiversary” gift to contribute to our renovation costs during Erie Gives, which in turn supports a larger Market filled with even more local love and nourishment.
With immense gratitude and optimism for the future,
Livia, Assistant Manager

Our goal is to provide access to fresh, locally grown food while being an entrepreneurial marketplace for food producers; and an understanding of the importance of both.
