Cheers to a new year, new products, and
a new program!
This week Squirrel is going nuts over Evercrisp apples from Orton’s, smartBARK! chocolate bark (read more in our Producer Profile below), and meals from Your Daily Serving, which include enchiladas, caprese chicken (GF), parmesan cauliflower, beef & broccoli, and creamy cauliflower soup (GF). (Betsy’s menu changes weekly!)
However you feel about New Year’s resolutions, January, being the first month of the year, holds opportunities to do something different. What better way to bring forth fresh energy than by re-imagining and redecorating your space!
Baker-Hart Studio Glass Suncatchers: If you loved their holiday ornaments, good news! Baker-Hart Studios has glass for all occasions and seasons.
Bird Sanctuary Prayer Flag: Bird watchers, rejoice! Check out this beautiful set of 6 of Mary Jo Haranin’s bird artwork screen-printed on canvas cloth.
Buena Vista Lavender Painted Slate: These hand-painted slates are ideal for herbal-enthusiasts who especially love lavender.
Raintree Farms Beeswax Candles: What better way to light up these dark evenings than with a candle? The great thing about beeswax candles is that there are no toxic by-products being released in the air when burned.
Windy Acres Farm & Garden Paperwhite Narcissus and Pink and White Amaryllis: Spruce up a window or table with these wintertime blooming flowers. They just require 1/4 cup of water once a week.
smartBARK! is a certified organic, fair-trade chocolate company that focuses on using whole food ingredients in their chocolate. Owner Ines Rehmer grew up on an organic farm in Yugoslavia and spent over 20 years as a chocolatier with Sweet Designs in Lakewood, OH. This inspired Rehmer to make healthy, dark chocolate treats and open smartBARK! in 2015.
Their products are also non-GMO, soy-free, and gluten-free! (and did we mention delicious?)
This week, we’re listening to Against the Grain, a new podcast designed to bring the magic of Farm Aid’s annual festival to listeners year-round. It includes the voices of farmers and artists, advocates and food experts, activists and policymakers – all of whom are working towards building a more just and equitable farm and food system. You can listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or Farm Aid’s website (first link.)
Making the most of your EBT/SNAP budget with Food Bucks!
As part of our mission to expand access to healthy local foods, we’ve teamed up with the Food Bucks program to offer rewards to our SNAP & EBT customers. For every $2 spent on produce, we will match it (up to $10.) This means you could be getting $20 worth of produce for just $10.
Our goal is to provide access to fresh, locally grown food while being an entrepreneurial marketplace for food producers; and an understanding of the importance of both.
