New Producer Spotlight: Uncle Jammy’s
Jamal Etienne-Harrigan, also known as Uncle Jammy, started his culinary career by means of another sauce: his first experiment in flavor-fusion was infusing deserts with classic mixed drinks for his job at Red Lobster. Eventually, he was asked to make sauces for a Monday Night Football Wing night, and thus his ventures in all things BBQ began. Since 2010, Uncle Jammy’s has been bringing his creative sauces and wing rubs to the table, with innovation and care for customer’s unique flavor requests and dietary needs.
Food For Thought
3 Local Markets, 1 Goal: Helping customers find NWPA Food
In the fall of 2022, Edinboro Market formalized a partnership with two other local markets, MeadvilleMarket House and Core Goods in Oil City, to help increase food access and build sales for farmers and food entrepreneurs in northwest PA. Producers who sell through our stores can drop their product off at the store that is closest to them and then store staff or one of two farm partners, Live and Learn Farms and Fat Hawk Farms, run a weekly route to move their products between the 3 markets. This gives producers more time to do what they do best, make and grow nutritious, delicious food.
This coordinated aggregation and delivery project allows us to carry a wider variety of products for our customers and to support more farmers and food makers.
We’re three northwest Pa markets and two farm partners working together to connect you with the people who grow and make your food. This project is funded by a grant from theReinvestment Fundwhichadministers the Healthy Food Financing Initiative program on behalf of the USDA.
Save the Dates: August 2023
August is going to be a great month. Not only will our coolers be loaded with fresh, delicious produce, but we have two major events going on that will give us a chance to (re)connect with you all.
Sunday, August 6th: Find NWPA Food Open House at Edinboro Market, Meadville Market House and Core Goods in Oil City
This will be a day filled with producer Meet & Greets, live music, and of course, delicious, local food. This event will be taking place at Edinboro Market, Meadville Market House, and Core Goods, all on August 6th from 10 am to 3 pm. Stop by all three or just the one closest to you to partake in a day of community and the food that brings us together.
Sunday, August 20th: Annual Farm to Table Dinner Fundraiser
Sunday August 20th is the date for our 3rd Farm to Table Dinner Fundraiser! We’re working on the details and will share them soon. We are limiting seats to around 150 and we sold out last year. so be sure to stop in or call to order your tickets when they go on sale in July.
The 2022 Farm to Table Dinner featured a menu prepared by Jess Sheehan from Flip Cafe, Micah Goring, and deserts made by Curtis from the Boro Sweet Spot.
We also had Contra-dancing and music from Toppish!
On top of that, this was a low-waste event and we asked dinner-goers to bring their own place settings which were judged for beauty and functionality. (There were prizes!) We teamed up with Conservation Compost and composted 500+ pounds of waste from food prep and dinner itself, sending just 3.8 pounds of trash to the landfill.
Now, how to top all those good things this year…hmmm.
Our goal is to provide access to fresh, locally grown food while being an entrepreneurial marketplace for food producers; and an understanding of the importance of both.
